Snow Storms and Blizzards

New York has extreme weather - the summers are as muggy and as hot as Hong Kong and in the winters, we have to brave -10 degrees celsius and snow blizzards.

Experiencing my first snow blizzard in NYC - 1-2 inches of snow falling per hour. Wind gusts of 50mph resulting in considerable snow drift and white-out conditions. Expecting to see 1-2 feet of snow outside my front door tomorrow morning.

Supermarkets are closing early. Buses have stopped running. Broadway performances may still continue. The City estimates it costs them US$1 million for every inch of snow in terms of snow ploughs, salt, cancelling sanitation workers' vacations. The Governor of Jersey has declared tonight "Family Night" in an effort to keep people at home.

Some firsts for me:

1) First time I bought some thermal longjohns
2) First time I wore 2 down coats - one on top of the other
3) First time I wore an unfashionable hat to keep my ears warm
4) First time I made snow angels (outside my local church too!)

Now the big question - am I going to be able to get to work on Monday?
