Things I like about America Part 1: Cable TV

One of the first things Paul installed on the FIRST day when we moved into our apartment in August was cable TV. We subscribed to Time Warner Cable which not only gets you 1000 channels but also super-speedy cable broadband for internet access. 1000 channels!!!! Handy scroll guide to pick what you want to watch!! Even a search function if you are looking for something particular...

Ok, some of it is in Spanish, some are music channels and some are blocked because you have to subscribe. I maybe watch about 30 of these channels on a regular basis - reruns of old movies I liked, reruns of Sex and the City, Star Trek NextGen, ER, new reality shows and dramas.

Nothing to watch? No probs...my standbys are the Food Channel for back-to-back cooking programs or the Travel Channel for endless reruns of Rough Guide, fashion channels, religious channels, health channels....there's something for everyone.

Turns out I'm quite "manly" in my tastes - I often find myself watching Spike TV (for men!) which shows 2 hrs of Star Trek EVERY DAY and endless CSI - woohoo!

Then there's Movies On Demand. The latest films released on video can be accessed at a touch of a button - US$3.95 for 24 hours. Costs are comparable to renting it out at Blockbusters but no need to step out of your front door or even worry about returning it late..

Is it any wonder my brain is turning to mush?

Do you also have TIVO? It'd be so awesome for example to have a full back catalogue of Voyager to watch. Never got into that due to work committments. Also is Enterprise any good? I can't get over the fact that the main guy was also in Quantum Leap, another sci-fi classic!

You see I DID have a blogger on blogspot about 2 years ago and totally forgot about it. I should definitely use this space to comment on my thoughts on Dutch life in August..
And Yee, how I envy so many channels on american tv, which is far superior than british tv..
I'm not too sure about the trekkie aspect though!

Sadly not. We didn't think it is so necessary...as we are going to get a DVD-R player which works like a VHS recorder but records on DVD instead.

I did have time to get into Voyager - it's quite good but am not watching Enterprise due to time constraints. Too much to follow.

I haven't even watched every episode of Next Gen yet - I have a list which I tick as I go along!!!
