Resort vacations is not really what I like to do on travels abroad. The idea that you live in a sanitized luxury bubble, remote from real life in a foreign country is not why I travel. Plus, I'm not great at sloth - the idea of relaxing by the pool for days on end seems like a waste of time, especially when there are new places to see, new things to eat, adventures to be had.
Having said all that, I did win a 2 night stay at the Angsana Lang Co resort in Danang at a work raffle. It seemed like a chance to give resort life a try. Maybe my instincts will be wrong and I will like it!?

Angsana Lang Co is about an hour's drive from Danang airport. We finished our stay in Vietnam with the 2 nights at Angsana. The 2-bedroom sky pool villa was indeed luxurious and consisted of 3 floors - the 2 bedrooms was on the lowest floor, the main living and dining area was on the ground floor with an outdoor pool and seating area on the top floor. The main living area and master bedroom had expansive views of the beach.

Waking up to Beach Views |
Aside from the large swimming pools, there was various activities throughout the day such as water sports, yoga and archery. There is also a large golf course next door which makes this an ideal stay for golfers. The weather was rainy and windy during our stay which made staying in the villa feel special. It was indeed a good feeling to wake up to moody beach views. Having just watched "Big Little Lies'", it made me feel I was living that Northern California lifestyle.

Dining Area |
Although the food was affordable by western standards, it was significantly more expensive than what you could get outside of the resort. For example, a bowl of noodles at the resort could set you back US$10-12. However, a bowl of pho outside of the resort would only be about US$2 and it would be more authentic and delicious.
We made the best out of the 2 days - we tried our hands at archery and I cycled over to The Banyan Tree for a complimentary yoga class. I can certainly see the convenience of a resort vacation if there are young children who love swimming involved. However, real-life Vietnam was quite a distance away. Not a vacation we would choose again but it was fun to live the Conde Nast Traveller lifestyle while it lasted!
